Honest answers from our team

Everything our customers ask most often — MOT rules, service intervals, accident claims, tyre choices, clutches and more. Can't find your question? Just call us.

Section 1

MOT

4 common questions about mot.

Your MOT is due three years after the car's first registration, then every year after. You can check the exact due date on the GOV.UK website using your number plate. We send free MOT reminders to all our customers a month before their next test.

Yes. If your car fails the MOT, we offer a free partial retest provided the failed items are repaired and the car is brought back within 10 working days. Most repairs we can carry out the same day.

Most MOT failures are simple things you can check yourself: lights, washer fluid, wiper blades, tyre tread depth (above 1.6mm) and number plate visibility. Bring your car in five minutes before the slot and we'll handle the rest.

Only if your previous MOT is still valid and the vehicle isn't classed as 'dangerous'. We'll always tell you exactly where you stand. Repairs can usually start straight away to get you back on the road.

Section 2

Servicing

3 common questions about servicing.

No. Under EU Block Exemption Regulation, you're free to use any garage for routine servicing as long as we follow the manufacturer's schedule and use parts of matching quality — which we always do. We stamp your service book just like a main dealer.

We recommend an interim service every 6 months or 6,000 miles and a full service every 12 months or 12,000 miles. High-mileage drivers, taxi and fleet operators should service every 6 months.

Yes, and it saves you money. Our combined Full Service & MOT package starts from £119 — you only pay one trip, one labour charge, and any advisories can be fixed before they become failures.

Section 3

Accident Repair

4 common questions about accident repair.

Yes — we're an approved repairer for most major UK insurers including Admiral, Aviva, Direct Line, LV=, AXA and many more. Even if we're not on your insurer's network, you can still choose us. We handle the entire claim on your behalf.

Yes — we provide a like-for-like courtesy car free of charge for the duration of your repair, subject to availability and a clean licence. For non-fault accidents we can usually arrange a credit hire vehicle of the same class.

We provide a lifetime warranty on workmanship and a manufacturer's warranty on all replacement parts. Colour-match is guaranteed under daylight-spec inspection — if it isn't right, we redo it.

No. For non-fault accidents we recover all costs from the third party's insurer, so you don't pay your excess and your premium isn't affected. We can also arrange a like-for-like hire vehicle at no cost to you.

Section 4

Tyres

3 common questions about tyres.

Legally tyres must have at least 1.6mm of tread across the central three-quarters. We recommend replacing at 3mm for safety — stopping distances in the wet increase dramatically below this. Look out for sidewall cracks, bulges and uneven wear too.

Yes — independent tests consistently show premium tyres (Michelin, Continental, Pirelli) stop shorter in the wet, last longer and are quieter. Budget tyres are still safe and legal, just less refined. We carry both so you can choose.

Yes — we fit and balance run-flat tyres including BMW, Mini and Mercedes specifications, and reset the TPMS where applicable. Run-flats must usually be replaced if punctured, but we'll always advise honestly.

Section 5

Clutch & Engine

6 common questions about clutch & engine.

On average, between 60,000 and 100,000 miles — but driving style, traffic conditions and load all matter. City drivers in stop-start traffic tend to wear clutches faster. We offer free clutch checks if you suspect yours is on the way out.

Many modern diesels and some petrols use a dual-mass flywheel (DMF) to reduce drivetrain vibration. If yours is worn, replacing only the clutch is false economy — we'll always check the DMF and quote honestly.

All clutch replacements come with a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labour. If anything goes wrong within that period through no fault of your driving, we put it right at no charge.

It depends on the colour and behaviour. Steady amber is usually safe to drive a short distance to a garage. Flashing amber or red means stop immediately and call us — continued driving can cause major damage.

Our full diagnostic scan is £49 — and it's completely free of charge if you go ahead with the repair we recommend. We use main-dealer level equipment and show you the live data.

Depends on the damage and the car's value. For a 10-year-old car with terminal failure, a low-mileage replacement is often more cost-effective than a rebuild. We'll quote both options honestly so you can decide.
